Hey folks, took my wife's 2023 Kona for its second free oil change. They tried to upsell me on synthetic oil, but I stuck with the 0-20w that the car needs. They wanted $30 extra for full synthetic, which seemed excessive. I'll change it myself next time.

Then they started pushing tire balancing, a cabin filter change, and this weird 'throttle clean' for $80. It's basically just wiping the throttle body. I've never heard of that and figured it should have been taken care of during the pre-delivery inspection. After turning them all down, we had a good laugh about them wanting to 'lubricate the muffler bearings'.

I need to do some more research on the oil thing though. Any thoughts?

Classic upsell tactics! A throttle body clean on a nearly brand-new Kona is unnecessary unless there’s a specific issue and $80 for wiping the throttle body is absurd. Good on you for sticking with 0W-20 it’s what the car needs. It’s always a good idea to double-check what’s actually recommended in the manual before agreeing to anything extra.
