Hyundai buyback for my lemon Kona

Hyundai’s finally taking my lemon ‘24 Kona Limited off my hands after a series of glitches and dealer dead-ends. Anyone else get a buyback? Was the offer fair, or did they try to lowball you? They’re keeping the details on lockdown, of course, but I’m thinking of adding a little extra to grab a ‘25 Tucson Hybrid. Got any red flags on those? Really don’t want to end up with another headache on wheels.

Rather disappointed to hear of your 24 Kona Limited issues. I just got a 2025 Kona Limited at the end of December. I understand 24 had a number of recalls for the Ioniq 5, 6 and even Kona. I'm hoping (praying) mine dodged that bullet. So far it's been very reliable and behaved. I only have a 2 year lease on it so it doesn't have to go far. Just don't want the continual nightmares I dealt with with a 2021 VW ID.4 with constant recalls and issues. I have to admit I was a little tempted at a Hybrid Tuscon the dealer had, Limited white with light interior. But I have no real intention of ever visiting another gas station. I'm too spoiled. It rendered me nearly $100 a month to my budget as our electricity costs near nothing here in Idaho. I'd be more tempted at the rumored redo of the Ioniq 6 coming at the end of this year. That's one sexy beast.

Glad to hear Hyundai is buying back your Kona, but yeah, they’re not exactly known for being generous with these deals. Most manufacturers will offer close to what you paid but try to factor in depreciation, so definitely double-check the numbers. As for the ‘25 Tucson Hybrid, it’s solid overall, but Hyundai’s hybrid system isn’t flawless, some early models had transmission quirks, and long-term battery reliability is still TBD. If you go for it, maybe push for an extended warranty just in case.
