hi. My Kona hybrid I bought a week ago had to be towed to the dealership. Before that, it stopped working in the middle of the roar and it got this The hybrid system was defective, and 12 volt battery discharge. It had only 400 miles on it. I have no updates about it. I don't even know what to do next. Any thoughts?

Hey! I had a similar issue with my 2024 gas Kona. It turned out to be an EGR valve problem affecting the battery. There’s a global recall for it right now

I know someone who had exactly the same issue. I am not lying. He got it to the dealership and they fixed it by replacing the HPCU unit.

Okay so when this happened in the past, the dealer swapped out the HPCU to fix the problem I was having, but honestly, I'm not thrilled with Hyundai's approach. Yeah, the new HPCU seems to have stopped the car from randomly dying on me, which is good, obviously. But the whole thing was a seriously scary experience. The car just suddenly stopped, which is incredibly dangerous. Frankly, it's shaken my confidence in the car. I need to be able to trust it, especially after something like that. It's really disappointing that Hyundai hasn't offered any kind of compensation, especially since this kind of malfunction messes with my work.

A "hybrid system defective" message and 12V battery discharge after only 400 miles is definitely not normal. It's good you got it towed to the dealer, but the lack of updates is worrying. I'd be on the phone with them first thing in the morning demanding answers. Don't let them brush you off. Since it's so new, it's almost certainly a warranty issue, but you want to know what went wrong and what they're doing to fix it. Keep all your paperwork and document every interaction with the dealer. If they give you the runaround, escalate it to Hyundai corporate. Nobody wants their new car to be a lemon, so be persistent! Hopefully, it's something simple, but with a hybrid system, who knows?
